Hello! My name is Katharine Moon Vari.

I am a student at Columbia University, an engineer, and interested in promoting tech development in the arts and media. 

At Columbia, I am in the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I am majoring in Computer Science and doing a minor in Art History. In Spring 2026, I will be studying abroad at Cambridge University’s Pembroke College, studying Classics and Computer Science.

I’ve done some research at UCSC in machine learning and at Columbia in VR, and I worked at Warner Bros. Discovery last summer doing software engineering.

01.Intern Project at Warner Bros. Discovery

Led HBO Max Test Patterns feature development, including video processing with Golang and ffmpeg, and user interface design for video features. 
Created user journeys alongside product management, asset design, and content discovery engineers. 
Addressed business needs in customer troubleshooting through UX development and video processing platform. 
Iteratively designed and implemented feature and video assets through content publishing pipeline.

02.Full-Stack Website for UI Design

Columbia University

Sample of a project I worked on for UI Design class at Columbia University in my sophomore spring. 
Accessed and maintained database using Python and Flask API calls, created interactive features with Javascript, and designed website using HTML/CSS. 
Learned design heuristics and interaction design.

03.P2P Blockchain Project for Computer Networks

Spring 2025
Columbia University

Implemented a sample blockchain for Computer Networks at Columbia University to trade and track Pokémon.
Uses the TCP protocol and ensures that all peers can securely access and mine blocks using SHA256. 
Includes testing and handling for “malicious peers” to ensure that any attacks or incorrect forking is handled across all users. 
Designed a UI and simple database in Javascript and HTML/CSS.

Developed and launched open-source software venture with two other students in high school. 
Worked on terminal-based UI and back-end for Safari extension/app Privacy Redirect and BitTorrent client Mabel. 
Mabel has over 400 stars on Github!
